Fardad Guest DJ in Los Angeles
at Jose Espinoza's Milonga Sunday
I once, twice, three times was a DJ!
As far back as when I was ten years old, I would spend hours selecting, compiling, ordering and re-ordering and re-ordering again, songs (then on cassette tapes) and then I would play them for family and friends when we went for barbeque in the country side, and in the car on the way there and back.
In the late 1980's and early 90's, I was spinning, first on vinyl LP's and later on a few CD's too, New Wave tunes, House Music, and Punk Rock songs on Technique turntables in underground nightclubs in Chicago. On the good nights I had some 300 in the crowd. It was a wonderful sensation knowing that many were intoxicated not just by the alcohol, but also by the music!
Since I started dancing tango 20+ years ago, I have collected some 4000 tangos, milongas, and valses, with which I have relished to create tandas for tango dancers in my own milongas. Sometimes, I manage to play the "the golden tanda" for a crowd, to re-coin the phrase "the golden note" my jazz idol (and the inspiration for me to pick up the trumpet) Chet Baker used to describe his best moments improvising on the horn for a given audience.
It's a wonderful hobby I love to share with friends, family, music and now tango aficionados.
Come join me as I "spin" for the first time as guest DJ, in Jose Espinoza's long-running Sunday night milonga Lucia and I love to attend at the Argentine Association in Los Angeles.
